The girl felt a pang of unease when Sonny remained silent.
“Are you still there? Did you pass out?”
“No.” He wearily closed his eyes and mumbled, “I’m exhausted. I want to get some sleep.”
“No, don’t sleep!”
She pounded on the wall, desperately trying to rouse him.
“You’re badly hurt. Falling asleep could mean bleeding out and never waking up again!”
Sonny found amusement in her words.
He’d been trained alongside Nathan in the army since childhood. He wasn’t one to go down so easily. How could he be that weak?
Although she was a stranger, she cared about him like no one else except Nathan and Lucinda. It touched his heart.
“Sir? Are you really sleeping? Or are you dying?”
The sound of the wall being slapped echoed again.
